A community-based initiative in partnership with AT&T to provide 8th -12th students access to unique career fields and support their pursuit of education and innovative career pathways. As a CIS-supported program, this initiative connects at-risk students to their communities and helps them understand the importance of staying in school and planning for their futures.
This on-site, work-based career exploration program consists of a one-day event at a local AT&T Corporate location, typically between 10am - 2pm. Students are transported to an AT&T corporate location, where they tour the facility, learn about various careers within the company and the telecommunications industry, and practice workplace readiness skills with AT&T employees.
In groups of 5-8, students we meet with an AT&T employee to discuss career goals and planning. CIS has developed activities based upon the 21st Century Learning Skills’ Four C’s to guide the day. The 4C’s were created to help students develop skills inside and outside of the classroom and includes techniques in collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. In order to create a more impactful experience and instill the lessons of the event, CIS Site Coordinators will prepare students for the visit with pre-work activities and post-work activities to debrief after their experience.
